Neuropsychological assessment with Dr. Smith involves a holistic assessment of an individual's cognition, social life/functioning, personality, and brain health. Assessments are helpful for determining the correct diagnosis, identify disability / impairment, and clarify functional ability. Comprehensive neuropsychological assessment isn't just about identifying problems, however. Assessments also include a number of individualized recommendations for improving quality of life.
The assessment process includes an extensive clinical interview, including a review of social, psychological, and biological history. In addition to interview, patients are administered multiple objective tests for intellect, memory, personality, and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. By integrating these components into our assessments, we can identify the underlying factors that may be impacting well-being.
Each evaluation with Dr. Smith is personalized to address a specific question. Our comprehensive assessments typically require 14-16 hours of clinical work for each client. These hours include face-to-face interviewing and testing, but also case conceptualization, test scoring, records review, consultation with physicians, report writing, and a feedback appointment to discuss findings and recommendations. To ensure thorough assessment and personalized care, face-to-face visits are typically divided into two appointments. One appointment for interview and testing (approximately four hours), and another appointment to review findings and discuss recommendations.
